Union leaders are launching a new offensive around Labor Day to provide fresh momentum for legislation aimed at making it easier to organize new locals.
The events begin Tuesday, when AFL-CIO President John Sweeney plans to release a new survey of young workers that sheds light on their experiences and expectations.
Among its findings: 31 percent of young workers don’t have health insurance — up from 24 percent 10 years ago; 31 percent will be working on Labor Day; and 55 percent are confident they can achieve their financial goals in the next five years, down from 77 percent 10 years ago.
