Billboards target Halvorson

U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson has a target on her back.

And perhaps, you have seen the black billboards with only a Web site listed on them -- DoNotLetDebbieHalvorsonKillJobs.com.

Halvorson is one of five Democrats -- three U.S. representatives and two senators -- targeted by a national group, the Economic Freedom Alliance. Run by prominent Republican strategists, businessmen and politicians, the organization's purpose is to get legislators to vote against the Employee Free Choice Act.

The pending legislation is one that, in general, is opposed by management because it essentially would make it easier to join or form labor unions.

Rather than the current election process required if workers want to unionize, this act would allow employees to sign union cards. And if a majority of employees do so, the National Labor Relations Board would certify the union without the election.
